PC World Editor's Review

Business-oriented monitor delivers excellent image quality and a highly adjustable stand at a low price--but its features are sparse.
Retested under our new protocol (see "How We Test"), the HP LP2465 performed well on both text and graphics. This 24-inch wide-screen LCD was particularly strong with photos and offered good details and contrast at default settings. Its scores technically fell in the middle of the pack of recently tested monitors of this type, but given the very high performance of this class, there's no shame there. The LP2465 maintained a small lead over its rival, the Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP.
This sharp-looking monitor has a thin silver bezel, and its sturdy black base lets you easily raise and lower, tilt, and pivot the screen. HP's intuitive on-screen menu includes a clever info screen that keeps a running total of the usage hours for the LCD.
The one place where the unit falls down is connectivity. HP is clearly targeting business users with the LP2465, but that's little reason to limit the unit's video inputs to two DVI-I ports. There's a DVI-to-VGA adapter for legacy systems, but no component, no S-Video, and no HDCP support. That may be a relief to some IT managers, but for the home user, it's a lost opportunity.
Competitively priced at $829 on 8/17/06, the LP2465 received a cost rating of Inexpensive on that date. Its chief rival is still the Dell, but bargain hunters may want to compare these two to the Acer AL2423DR. The Acer doesn't have as many features as the HP--notably, it's lacking USB ports--but its image quality is comparable, and its price was $699 on the same day.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: High quality S-PVA panel, very good color reproduction and viewing angles, two DVI inputs, 3-year warranty
Weaknesses: No HDMI or composite inputs, no HDCP, a bit expensive (but you get what you pay for)
Overall Evaluation: The HP LP2465 is a great quality 24-inch LCD monitor. Picture is bright and colors are very good out of the box. Text is sharp using DVI or the analog VGA connections. There is a big price jump from 22-inch monitors but 24-inch monitors have a higher DPI (dots-per-inch) with their native 1920x1200 resolution. Most cheaper monitors have a different panel (usually TN which are cheaper to make). The HP LP2465, however uses a S-PVA panel which better color reproduction and wider viewing angles than TN panel. The downside is comparatively slower response times, but ghosting wasn't noticeable during gaming. Overall, the HP LP2465 is a great monitor. While it is pricey, you get what you pay for. The biggest flaw is there are no HDMI or composite inputs, which really is a shame because this monitor would great as an HDTV for a PS3, XBox.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Great picture, color, response, design.
Weaknesses: Not for those who may have eye problems since native resolution is 1200 X 1960.
Overall Evaluation: Easy out of the box setup ? great picture after adjusting the brightness down to 5 & contrast to 10! No dead pixels. Video & stills look outstanding! This monitor is built with quality in mind. Clean, modern silver bezel. Adjustable stand is very robust ? easy to move up & down. Monitor looks great with new MacPro Quad Intel. A bit expensive, but worth it when spending 6 - 8 hours a day using it. Hundreds less than Apple Cinema display. Spent 6 months researching monitors. This one won over Dell.
