Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit on Tuesday released an update for Office 2004 for Mac. According to Microsoft, this update enhances security and stability, including fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code.

The update also addresses an issue across the suite of applications that causes an increase in utilization of system resources when you drag a file or object to an Office application window.

Specific applications received updates as well. An issue was fixed in Excel that caused it to unexpectedly open workbooks or other files when the application was opened. PowerPoint unexpected quits have been resolved and a problem that caused Entourage to stop responding for several minutes during ordinary use has been fixed.

The update is available using the Auto Update feature in Office.
