Canon U.S.A. on Monday introduced its imageCLASS MF4270, a Mac and PC-compatible monochrome laser multifunction printer with a suggested retail price of $299. It will begin shipping to retailers in September, according to the company.

The imageCLASS MF4270 features duplex (two-sided) printing and a 35-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). It has a built-in fax and can print at speeds of up to 21 pages per minute for letter-sized output, with resolution up to 1200 x 600 dots per inch. It will scan documents in 24-bit color.

The MF4270 can connect directly to a host computer using USB 2.0, but it also features built-in 10/100baseT Ethernet networking. It sports a 250-sheet front-loading paper cassette tray, and it uses the "Canon Single Cartridge System," which combines the toner and drum in one unit.

Canon's Web site had not yet been updated with information about the MF4270 as Macworld posted this article.
