Fujitsu Computer Products of America on Monday introduced the ScanSnap S510M, a new version of its ScanSnap scanner for the Mac. It costs $495.
The S510M is designed as an office scanner capable of simultaneously scanning both sides of a document. It can work in color and operates at up to 18 pages per minute. The device comes equipped with an automatic document feeder (ADF) that holds up to 50 pages at a time. It works at up to 600 dots per inch, automatically detects black and white or color, can de-skew images, and connects to the Mac using USB 2.0.
The ScanSnap S510M sports the ability to create searchable PDF files, advanced handling of delicate documents, added filing sheets and a new "Quick Menu" interface to make it easier to control scanned documents.
New software is included, as well: ABBYY's FineReader 3.0 Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, which produces editable and searchable PDFs. The scanner is also bundled with Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. You can now more easily attach scans directly to e-mail, save scans to selectable folders or send scans directly to a printer.
The ScanSnap S510M supports Mac OS X v10.4 or later and works on PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.
