Sanyo today introduced its Xacti CG9. The digital camcorder records MPEG-4 video to a flash media card and will be available in April for $279.99, in either black or silver.

The Xacti CG9 records in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, and writes content to an SD or SDHC flash media card. It can also record 9.1 megapixel still images (in JPEG format). The device features a pistol grip shape with a swing-out 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder.

Features include a 5x optical zoom lens, the ability to capture up to 10 photos in rapid succession, image stabilization, built-in flash, stereo audio recording, wind noise function, "talking navigation" that lets you know current settings, and "face chaser" technology that will automatically focus on up to 12 faces in each still image.

The Xacti CG9 connects to a Mac or PC using USB 2.0. It weighs 7 ounces and measures 2.9 x 4.0 x 1.5 inches.

Sanyo notes the Xacti CG9 is "compatible with Apple's full complement of video editing applications including iMovie 08."
