Atempo has introduced Atempo Digital Archive (ADA) version 2.0, a new version of its archive and storage system for Mac OS X, Linux, Unix and Windows. It'll be released on April 15, 2008.

ADA is a long-term data storage system aimed at mid-market and larger organizations. Described as a "Hierarchical Storage Management" (HSM) system, ADA features a three-tier software architecture that helps IT administrators to manage the storage of data on the most appropriate resources, configured with appropriate security and protection.

For end users, ADA lets you drag and drop files into pre-defined archives as you need to, and allows you to customize your archiving policies based on your project or organizational requirements. ADA incorporates metadata-based classification and indexing, advanced search features, automation, central administration and data lifecycle management tools.

The new 2.0 release features file de-duplication capabilities, to make sure you're not excessively backing up material you've already stored. Content is now fully indexing, so search capabilities have been broadened. What's more, ADA 2.0 incorporates a utility that can identify inactive, fixed content data that's now ready to be archived.
