EA's Bing Gordon Joins Venture Capital Firm

Electronic Arts' (EA's) Chief Creative Officer William "Bing" Gordon has been hired as a partner at the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB). The firm announced Tuesday that he will join them in June. In his new role at KPCB, Gordon will be mentoring entrepreneurs in consumer technologies.

Gordon is the same executive who took the stage with Steve Jobs at Apple's 2007 WWDC keynote address and announced EA's plans to support the Mac with six games, including Madden NFL 08 and Need for Speed: Carbon. This year, EA is following up with only one Mac release announced thus far: Spore.

Gordon co-founded EA in 1982 and has been with the company since his inception. He's long had a relationship with KPCB, as well -- the venture capital firm funded EA's initial business plan in 1982.

He plans to continue a relationship with the company even though he's leaving, as CCO Emeritus. He'll return to EA to "lead periodic workshops on innovation with EA Studio leaders," according to the statement.
