Legendary game maker Id Software on Wednesday confirmed that it has begun production on Doom 4, a new installment of the first-person shooter game franchise that first put the company on the map a decade and a half ago.

The announcement comes in conjunction with the listing of new jobs available on Id Software's Web site. The company is fleshing out its roster with new designers, artists, animators, programmers and others.

Todd Hollenshead, Id Software's CEO, said that the company is putting out the call for the "greatest talent and brightest minds" to create the next Doom game.

"It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles," said Hollenshead in a statement.

Id Software didn't specify what will be in Doom 4, or what platforms the game is targeted for. The job postings indicate that the company is looking for programmers with experience developing for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. That doesn't mean the Mac is off the list, however.

Id Software's games regularly come to the Mac, thanks to partnerships with companies like Aspyr Media. Id is also planning a Mac release of its next major game, Rage.
