Apple confirmed on Wednesday that its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) has sold out. This is the first time in the history of the conference that WWDC has been completely sold out.

"Response to this year's WWDC has been off the charts and we are delighted with the show of enthusiasm and support from the developer community for the new iPhone SDK," Apple spokesman Bill Evans, told Macworld.

Apple would not elaborate on how many developers had registered for the conference, but developers that Macworld polled said that, in recent years, thousands have been in attendance.

For the first time WWDC 2008 will feature sessions on writing applications for the iPhone. With the release of the iPhone SDK earlier this year, WWDC will now have sessions for mobile developers with in-depth sessions and hands-on labs to explore the capabilities of iPhone 2.0 software, including the iPhone SDK and the App Store.

Apple also did not indicate how many of the developers attending this year's conference were there specifically to develop for the iPhone.

As expected, the company announced on Tuesday that Apple CEO Steve Jobs will once again kick off the company's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) being held June 9-13 in San Francisco, Calif. The keynote will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9 at Moscone West.
