Epson Announces New Printers, Multifunction Devices

Epson Monday announced four new products to its WorkForce line of printers. The WorkForce 30 and WorkForce 40 are ink-jet printers, while the WorkForce 500 and WorkForce 600 are multifunction devices. The WorkForce line is aimed at small and home businesses.

The WorkForce 30 (US$70) is a four-color (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) ink-jet printer that uses Epson's DuraBrite Ultra all-pigment inks. It offers 5,760-by-1,440 print resolution and 20 pages per minute speed for color, 38 ppm for black and white. The printer also has a speed rating of 27 ppm for black text (11 ppm for color text) at its top text quality setting. The WorkForce 30 is USB 2.0 only.

Like the WorkForce 30, the WorkForce 40 ($130) uses four separate DuraBrite Ultra inks and offers 5,760-by-1,440 print resolution. The printer is rated at 38 ppm for both color and black and white prints. The WorkForce 40 has USB 2.0, WiFi, and Ethernet.

The WorkForce 500 ($130) is a multifunction device that can print, scan, copy, and fax. It uses four individual DuraBrite Ultra inks, and is rated at 33 ppm for black and white or color prints. The printer has a resolution of 5,760-by-1,440, while the scanner has a 1,200-by-2,400 dpi resolution. The WorkForce 500 also has a 30-sheet automatic document feeder, a 2.5-inch color LCD, PictBridge support, memory card slots, auto photo correction, and more. The WorkForce 500 is USB 2.0 only.

The WorkForce 600($200) multifunction device can print, scan, copy, and fax. Using four DuraBrite Ultra inks, the printer is rated at 38 ppm for color or black and white. In top-quality text mode, the printer is rated at 27 ppm for black text and 19 ppm for color text. It has a 30-page auto document feeder, a 2.5-inch color LCD, memory card slots, PictBridge support, auto photo correction, 1,200-by-2,400 dpi scanning, and more. The WorkForce 600 has USB 2.0, WiFi, and Ethernet.

The WorkForce devices require Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) or later.
