Google Teams Up With the Getty Museum, Gives Art Fans 'Goggles'

If you haven’t already played around with Google Goggles, you’re really missing out on an amazing use of technology. The free application for your Android or iOS device allows you to retrieve various bits of information related to something by simply taking a picture of it. You can use the app to find out about anything from books to toys to even that addictive pack of gum in your pocket--and don’t forget about landmarks, in the spirit of the summer season.

Paper Record Player Makes for the Coolest Wedding Invitation Ever

Artist and designer Kelli Anderson was asked to design a wedding card for her friends Karen and Mike. As it turns out, Karen happens to be a lawyer who DJs at night, and Mike is a Grammy-nominated sound engineer. So what happens when you combine those three elements? A super awesome paper record player.

The retro-style invitation was inspired by the old 50s TV show Mr. Wizard, according to Anderson. Opening up the card reveals a really neatly designed booklet that truly gives off that retro vibe. Opening up the booklet takes you to a page where you find a flexidisc record and a piece of paper with a needle sticking out that tells you to fold it. On the disc itself, you’ll find a nice story that talks about the couple’s future together.

Researchers Develop Artificial Leaf; Your Marigolds Cower in Fear

These leaves are real. For real. The ladybug is too.A research team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) led by Dr. Daniel Nocera, Ph.D., claims to have made a drastic discovery in the world of sustainable energy by developing the first "practical" artificial leaf. These leaves are actually advanced solar cells that mimic photosynthesis, the process by which their real-life counterparts convert sunlight and water into energy. According Nocera, the leaves, although small in size, “"could produce enough electricity to supply a house in a developing country with electricity for a day."

The team introduced their creation this past weekend at the 241st National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Anaheim, California, but the concept of an artificial leaf is not entirely new. In fact, John Turner of the U.S. Renewable Energy Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado created the first artificial leaf about a decade ago. However, the biggest drawback of Turner’s leaf was that it required rare, expensive metals. Moreover, it was highly unstable, with a lifespan of about one day.

iOS 4.3 Already Jailbroken the Day After Its Release

It was literally yesterday (Wednesday) that Apple released iOS 4.3, and just a little over 24 hours later, it’s already been jailbroken.

That’s right, everyone; people are getting much faster at messing with Apple software, including the most recent humiliation to Safari. According to Daily iPhone Blog, an "alpha version" of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 has already been created and is shown (allegedly) to be working in this teaser video below.

Great Scott! Scientists Claim Time Travel Is Possible

Forget the Verizon iPhone, the rumored iPad 2, or even my beloved annual Winter NAMM Show 2011--this is clearly the discovery of the year. You might want to be sitting down for this one.

Jay Olson and Timothy Ralph at the Department of Physics over at the University of Queensland in Australia recently published a paper entitled: "Extraction of timelike entanglement from the quantum vacuum". In the roughly seven- to eight-page document filled with equations I will probably never understand, the two discuss and conclude on what appears to be the discovery of "teleportation in time" (aka. Time Travel).

Extend Your Evo 4G's Battery Life With These Tweaks

When you think of HTC’s EVO 4G phone, two things immediately pop-up in your mind: 1) wow this thing is amazing, and 2) wow this battery life is absolutely terrible. But there is some good news: The phone is still amazing, and now there are some ways that can help combat the battery issue.

All Hail the Open-Source Time Machine!

Photo: Dan Henriksson

The Back to the Future fan inside of us may want to call him “Doc,” but his name is Dan Henriksson--and he has just constructed a really awesome representation of a time machine. (Great scott!) The time machine concept is a "working" prototype (appropriately titled “The Time Machine”) and is actually the result of Henriksson’s graduation work from the HDK design school in Gothenburg, Sweden. Not too shabby for an art project, eh?

RIAA, MPAA Websites Pummeled By 4chan’s Wrath

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) fell victim to the wrath of 4chan members this weekend. A series of coordinated DDoS (Distributed Denial-of Service) attacks against the media trade groups' websites temporarily brought them to their knees.

Fan-Made Mega Man vs. Street Fighter Game Must Be Brought to Light

Well, it’s not another fighting game, but we really hope that this comes to a game system near us someday. User SonicZH of the fan site Capcom-Unity created an entertaining (read: awesome) 8-bit mashup game between two of Capcom’s most famous series--Megaman and Street Fighter--in the cleverly titled Megaman vs. Street Fighter.

What originally started a fan art contest on Capcom Unity’s site back in July has now turned into something that has received a lot of acclaim in the gaming world and has the potential to be even more awesome if we can get our hands on it. SonicZH sent out the first teaser back in July, showing the world a video of a run through one of the levels. Video after the jump.

Music Tech: 'Töken' Brings Multitouch to DJs

Move over, iPad and tonetable; there’s a new king of virtual DJing rigs coming. And it might just change everything (again).

The Töken multitouch screen concept, powered by EMULATOR and Traktor Pro, looks like something that would appear straight out of a club scene in any sci-fi movie. But the best part is that it’s not fake or CG. It’s actual, working equipment powered by real software. Video after the jump.
