Amazon Mobile for IPhone

Standing in the middle of a well-stocked book store may seem like the moment you would least need access to Amazon.com. But I can't count how many times I've been in a store, picked up a book and wondered how much it costs on the online retail site. There's also the matter of reviews--a quick glance at the write-ups on Amazon.com can give you more info on whether the book you might buy is as good as a read as it promises to be.

Galcon for IPhone

At first glance, Galcon from galcon.com kind of reminded me of an older PC game called Homeworld. Both are fast-paced games that involve taking over a galaxy of planets and both feature a somewhat similar graphic style.

That's as far as the similarities go though because, unlike Homeworld, Galcon is much simpler and much easier to jump into. It's also one of the few games for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows for multiplayer games over the Internet.

Encamp for IPhone

Users of the Web-based Basecamp project management tool have plenty of options at the App Store for accessing Basecamp on the go. But of the half-a-dozen or so Basecamp-friendly apps, I like Encamp, which stands out thanks to a speedy interface and good workflow.

Project-Focused: Encamp, a mobile app that access the Web-based Basecamp project-management tool, lets you view all the projects on your account with a tap of the Projects Tab.

Watchmen: Justice Is Coming for IPhone

Watchmen, one of the best graphic novels of all time, has been turned into a movie. Predictably, Warner Bros. is cashing in by releasing Watchmen video games, including one for the iPhone. Watchmen: Justice is Coming is a role-playing game for the iPhone and iPod touch that has some intriguing features and is also plagued with problems.

With real-time 3-D rendering and online play, Justice is Coming seeks to emulate features found in desktop massively multiplayer online (MMO) games. Just like the characters that populate the graphic novel, though, there are sides of this game that are good, bad, and downright ugly.

ComiXology for IPhone

Comic book geeks know that Wednesday is a special day--it's when the new comic books hit store shelves each week. And when Wednesday arrives, comiXology may be the handiest thing to have with you this side of Batman's utility belt.

The free comiXology Web site lets you see what's new in the world of comic books; you can also generate a pull list of the comics you're interested in. With the iPhone version of comiXology from Iconology, you can take your pull list with you as well as enjoy easy access to other information about new comics.
