Follow-Up Android Phone from HTC Coming to Singapore in Early June

android, google os, htcMobile device maker HTC's second product to be based on Google's Android platform will be released early June in Singapore.

The mobile smart phone, named HTC Magic, features a 3.2-inch half-size video graphics array (better known as HVGA) touch screen display with 320 x 480 pixel resolution, a trackball for navigation, a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, and global positioning system (better known as GPS).

Cybercrooks Target Social Networks

According to a report from MessageLabs Intelligence, which specializes in the analysis of messaging security issues and threats, a popular tactic in 2008 among cyber criminals involved the creation of fictitious accounts on social networking sites. These fake accounts were then used to post malicious links, which usually led to a phishing site, to legitimate users.

Toshiba Launches Three Mobile Computers

Mobile computer manufacturer Toshiba has unveiled three lightweight products targeted at various consumer segments. Yesterday's product launch, which consisted of one netbook and two ultraportable computers, also marks Toshiba's venture into the netbook market. Netbooks are usually defined as small form factor mobile computers that use low-voltage processors.

Toshiba's maiden netbook offering, the NB100, comes with a backlit 8.9-inch WSVGA LCD panel, with resolution up to 1024 x 600 pixels. The NB100 is powered by Intel's N270 Atom CPU and runs Microsoft Windows XP.

Yahoo Gives Students Prizes for Widgets

Internet search engine firm Yahoo has presented awards to students from four Singapore educational institutions, for developing mobile widgets deemed creative and useful. Widgets are small software applications designed to perform a specific function.

Four student teams from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Nanyang Polytechnic (NP), Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) received cash prizes for mobile widgets they developed as entries to Yahoo's inaugural mobile developer awards. The widgets were created using Yahoo's latest mobile development platform, named Yahoo Blueprint.
