Green IT Remains Immature, Emission Offsets Highly Unlikely

Green IT remains immature across the US, UK, Australia and India and the industry is highly unlikely to offset its carbon emissions by 2020, according to a survey commissioned by Fujitsu.

The Green IT: The Global Benchmark survey of 600 CIOs and IT managers across the four locations is based on methodology created by Connection Research and RMIT University that looks at five areas (lifecycle, end user, data centre, low-carbon enabler, and monitoring/measuring) to create an IT Readiness Index.

Analyst: Worries Will Remain Over ISP-level Content Filter

The Federal Government's decision to go ahead with a controversial ISP-level content filter will raise more questions than it answers, according to a leading telecommunications analyst.

Speaking to Computerworld, Buddecomme director, Paul Budde, said he was worried the move by Senator Stephen Conroy to push ahead with the content filter to block URLs that received a Refused Content classification by the ACMA in the face of considerable public backlash was setting a precedent for the future.

2009: The Year the Cloud Was Seeded

The economic downturn may have dominated the agenda for much of 2009 but it was also the year the cloud was seeded, according to analyst firm IDC.

At its Powering the Enterprise Cloud Conference in Sydney, IDC research manager Matthew Oostveen said the retrospective view of this year for IT managers and CIOs won't necessarily be focussed on the global financial crisis.
