Security software firm Grisoft has launched a security suite for mobile phones.

AVG Mobile Security, which is now available in free beta format from Grisoft's site, runs on Symbian UIQ 3.0-based mobile phones and is compatible with Sony Ericsson's P990i, M600i and W950i handsets.

It includes SMS antispam and anti-virus, together with 'advanced functions' such as comprehensive system settings for scan scheduling and creating whitelists.

Grisoft says there are around 350 mobile viruses and threats today, with the number of virus attacks on handsets increasing five-fold within the last year. It said these attacks affected customers of more than 80 percent of mobile operators worldwide.

"Hackers are now finding ways to access mobile phone data and we want to ensure that our users stay protected," said Larry Bridwell, Global Security Strategist at Grisoft.
