Asustek Delays Launch of U2E Laptop

Taiwan's Asustek Computer has delayed the launch of its 2.8-pound, battery-friendly U2E laptop so it can launch it along with a few other products, a company representative said Thursday.

There is no problem with the launch of the laptop PC, which comes wrapped in either black or brown leather, he said. The company simply decided to take the opportunity to launch other products with the U2E at its news conference. The launch could be next week, but the company has not set a date yet, the representative said.

The U2E is built for power-savings with an LED (light emitting diode) backlight behind its 11-inch LCD panel, and a 32G-byte SSD (solid-state drive) instead of a hard disk drive (HDD).

LED backlights use about 10-15 percent less power than the CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) backlights that are currently used in most laptop PCs. SSDs save power as well, because unlike HDDs, they do not contain any moving parts.
