The Trade Show and Demo Hall of Shame

A Trifecta of Microsoft Crashes

Even in a controlled environment, no one is immune to the Blue Screen of Death or other Windows glitches--not even Bill Gates. And it doesn't even matter which version of Windows is running, from 98 to Vista.

Take this demo from Comdex 1998, for example.

Yes, thank goodness the final version of Windows 98 didn't have that pesky Blue Screen of Death problem...oh, wait.

Then there's the Windows Media Center demo that went awry at CES in 2005. Altogether, three Windows errors marred the 2005 keynote. At least Conan O'Brien was on hand for comic relief, though Gates didn't look too amused.

And finally, consider the Vista speech-recognition demo at Microsoft's 2006 Financial Analyst Meeting, which got off to a very sketchy start. That said, the Vista speech-recognition errors were nowhere near as rampant as this news segment would have you believe.

Did We Miss One?
