Easygoing Miyamoto Suddenly Tight-Lipped on Wii HD Console

While rumors persist that Nintendo is working on a new Wii console, complete with HD and some kind of new interface, the notoriously loose-lipped Shigeru Miyamoto has suddenly taken to a more conservative approach when talking about Nintendo's future plans.

Miyamoto, always good for an off-the-cuff remark or two at video games conferences each year, was uncharacteristically mum when asked about a high definition Wii offering.

Speaking to German site 3sat (translated by Nintendo Everything), Miyamoto said he could not confirm what Nintendo was doing today.

"But the fact of the matter is that technology is evolving all the time and in Japan, for example, all the analog broadcasts will be stopped and shifted into the digital broadcasting," he said. "So many things are taking place and we are working in terms of the changes of the technologies all the time."

It was a peculiar answer, to say the least, but somewhat unsurprising given Nintendo's TV-like strategy in Japan at the moment. Next year could prove interesting on the Nintendo front, no?
