Steve Jobs is very important to Apple, but the company can survive without him, says the company's co-founder Steve Wozniak.
During an interview on US television, Wozniak said Apple could benefit from Job's sabbatical from the company.
"He wants a rest, but a person like him is going to work out better concepts, products and ways the future could be. It's probably a great, great thing for Apple."
After months of speculation about his health, Jobs confirmed at the start of January that he is suffering from a hormone imbalance. However, just days after saying he would stay on as CEO at Apple, Jobs announced he was stepping aside for six months.
In a letter to Apple employees, Jobs said: "During the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought." Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook will stand in for Jobs in CEO duties.
In the interview, Wozniak said he believed the public, media and tech industry should take what Jobs says about his illness and face value. "We should trust him and accept what he says," he added.
Wozniak also revealed that while Jobs is "very important" to Apple's success and is "one careful mind that has a clear vision", the tech company has "some incredible people that are followers of Steve himself and the Apple mentality". Woziak said he felt these employees had learnt good techniques and could "carry on the culture of company while he [Jobs] is gone".
In regards to Apple's culture of secrecy, Wozniak said this had developed because confirming rumours before products were launched had been "harmful to Apple".
