WD Offers My Book World Edition Network Storage Drive

Western Digital (WD) on Wednesday introduced the My Book World Edition, a new network storage drive that's Mac and PC-compatible. It's available in 1 terabyte (TB) and 2TB editions for US$229.99 and $449.99 respectively.

The My Book World Edition drive sports a Gigabit Ethernet connection and a USB 2.0 port for additional storage expansion. It features a built-in media server which enables you to share photos, music and videos with any Mac, PC, Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3 connected on the network, as well as some wireless digital picture frames and televisions. (It supports both DLNA and UPnP standards, as well as having an embedded Tunes server.)

The drive sports a capacity gauge that lets you see at a glance how much space is available, and is managed using a Web browser (Safari 2.0 or later is supported, as well as Firefox 2.0 or later). The device also comes with WD Anywhere Backup, a Mac and Windows-compatible backup application that lets you store files from your local computer on the My Book World Edition.
