Spyware Jumps in 2009

Spyware increased by 10 percent in the first quarter of 2009, compared to the same period last year, says Panda Security.

According to PandaLabs, the security vendor's malware detection and analysis centre, the number of Trojans released onto the web increased by 31.5 percent compared to Q1 2008, while there was 21 percent more adware than in the same period last year.

PandaLabs also said that Trojans accounted for 73 percent of all new malware indentified during the first quarter.

"We have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of spyware in circulation over this period, probably aimed at saturating laboratories and consequently infecting more users," said Luis Corrons, technical director of PandaLabs.
