Iomega has announced the release of new eGo portable hard disk drive models aimed specifically at Mac users. The new drives feature three interfaces--one FireWire 800 port, one FireWire 400 port and one USB 2.0 port. They're priced starting at $100 and come in capacities up to 500GB.
The eGo sports a new aluminum chassis design and comes in three different colors: white, blue and red, depending on capacity. Inside the drive enclosure is a 2.5 inch portable hard disk drive mechanism. Iomega's "Drop Guard" feature protects the drive from drops up to 51`inches (the company backs the eGo with a three-year warranty).
The eGo is available with a software bundle comprising Iomega QuickProtect, backup software that aids with simple scheduled file-level back of data to a hard drive or to a network-attached storage device; EMC Retrospect Express, which backs up data, applications and app settings; and MozyHome Online Backup, which lets you back data up to an online storage system, with 2GB included for free and unlimited capacity priced at $5 per month.
The eGo requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
Iomega is also making available separately an optional black carrying case and a "power grip belt."
The eGo with triple interface comes in a 250GB white model for $100; a 320GB blue model priced at $110; and a 500GB red model priced at $150.
