EMC and Box.net announced a deeper partnership that gives customers a stepping stone to embrace the benefits of the cloud without risking it all. The hybrid approach of EMC Documentum combined with Box.net in the cloud delivers both peace of mind and flexibility at the same time.
Recent cloud debacles like those experienced at Amazon, or the outage of Microsoft BPOS services last week, are poignant examples of how businesses that rely on the cloud are affected when the cloud is not available.
The cloud is great, but businesses need a safety net to feel confident embracing it.The alliance between EMC and Box.net gives business customers the capability to straddle the line between local and cloud data storage--providing the benefits of the cloud with the security and stability of local storage.

EMC Documentum customers can connect their on-premise data to Box.net using Box's EMC Cloud Connect. Once connected, data can be easily transferred between the two platforms, archived, or seamlessly synchronized.

For customers that already use Box.net to store data in the cloud, the EMC partnership gives them the tools to back that data up locally to ensure availability even in the event of a Box.net or general Internet outage. For EMC Documentum customers, it gives them the ability to extend that data to the cloud so it can be accessed from anywhere, and from virtually any smartphone or tablet.
This alliance is just the sort of win-win that businesses need to be able to embrace the cloud with confidence, while still having a safety net in place when the cloud fails--because it will fail eventually.
