Remember the Milk Rocks the iPad

You know, every time I leave one mobile platform for another, some new app comes along to make me wish -- at least momentarily -- that I'd stuck it out. This week, that app is the new Remember the Milk for iPad, which is the culmination of more than a year of development from the RTM team. And I have to say: They knocked it out of the park.

With a design that borrows a number of the Twitter app's finer touches, RTM for iPad raises the bar substantially over the service's existing iPhone app. Beyond the fairly obvious issue of support for the iPad's larger screen, the app employs the smooth slider effects found in the Twitter app, making it easy and nearly thoughtless to move from today's to-dos to next Tuesday's, tap into an entry, make quick edits, and move on.

Compared with other GTD-centric to-do apps, the old Remember the Milk iPhone app looked pretty sparse and, I dare say, ill-designed. But this new app soars ahead of most of its competitors in the App Store (even most of the paid ones). And this one's absolutely free.

Now, of course, I can't help wondering whether the gang at RTM will bring a similar tablet-friendly version to Android. While Android doesn't suffer from the same screen size limitations that iOS does (on every tablet I've tried, RTM for Android fills the screen effectively), it would be awesome to have the same slick interface on Android that Remember the Milk now delivers on the iPad. I can only hope such improvements aren't yet another year in the future.
