Xerox Mobile Scanner Sends Scans Wirelessly

Ever found yourself away from your office with a paper copy of something that needs to be sent out? Xerox’s new Mobile Scanner will create a PDF or JPG without the need for a computer or power outlet. All you have to do is turn it on, select the file format, and insert the document. The scan starts automatically.

The scanner communicates with the device it’s sending to via a free app for Mac, PC, Android, iOS, or the Web. A 4GB Eye-Fi SD card is included. You may recognize Eye-Fi as the makers of Wi-Fi enabled SD cards for cameras that send photos from the camera to the cloud automatically.

The Mobile Scanner is available now for $249.99 from Xerox and retail partners, and comes with a rechargeable battery (which Xerox claims is good for over 300 scanned pages), carrying case, USB cable, and an AC adapter. At 1.5lbs, and 11.5 inches long, it shouldn’t add too much to your travel weight.

While there are many other portable scanners on the market, they all connect by USB so they require an actual computer with a USB to process scans. Xerox’s new Mobile Scanner is the first that sends scans over Wi-Fi, bypassing the need for a computer with a USB port, and sending directly to smartphones, tablets, and the cloud.
