Royal Philips Electronics Reports Web Security Breach

Health-care technology and lighting vendor Royal Philips Electronics has reported a possible security breach affecting a portion of its website, the company announced Tuesday.

The "possible security event," related to some of its micro websites, happened on Monday, said Philips, based in Amsterdam. The compromised server was shut down within an hour of Philips employees discovering the breach, the company said.

The affected micro sites are used by the company for campaigns and marketing promotions, Philips said.

"We are currently assessing the nature and extent of information that may have been accessed and a full investigation is in place," the company said in a statement.

Philips didn't offer additional details about the breach.
