Description of Microsoft Network Security Hotfix Checker
There are lots of Windows patches available, but how do you know your computer and network have the most recent ones? Microsoft Network Security Hotfix Checker (HFNetChk) is a command-line tool that you can use to detect the presence or absence of security patches on a computer or selected group of computers.
HFNetChk can be run on Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 systems. It scans either the local system or remote ones for patches available for the following products: Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Internet Information Server 4.0 and 5.0, SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 (including Microsoft Data Engine), and Internet Explorer 5.01 and later.
After scanning your OS to see what patches need to be applied to a computer, the program returns the Microsoft 'Q' number, which references a download on Microsoft's site. All you have to do then is go to the Microsoft Web site and search for the 'Q' number.
