A stolen notebook can give you a sense of hopelessness regarding its return. If you have Absolute Protect installed on your computer before it is stolen, it can locate your laptop by alerting you when someone logs your computer on to the Internet.
After a specified time period has passed, Absolute Protect begins looking for an Internet connection. When it finds Internet access, it makes a short connection to the manufacturer's server, which detects the location of the computer and records it to a Monitoring Report, which is then available online, or can be e-mailed to you. This process cannot be detected by the user or by current antivirus products.
When the computer is not connected to the Internet for five days it will use a modem and silently dial the phone number(s) you specify during installation (if you do not specify any phone number, it will not dial). You can then use Call Display to detect the phone number from which the call was made. In many cases, the program can even survive hard disk reformatting.
