Just what is it about Fall that brings on thoughts of death and restless spirits? Perhaps it's the lengthening nights and howling winds: the end of October nears and we start feeling spooky. Much of the Western world celebrates Halloween, which is fun in its way. I, however, prefer the Mexican and Latin American tradition of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, which falls on November 2.
Day of the Dead is a time to honor and celebrate our departed loved ones. It's not a sad time--in fact, it's marked by parties and parades in many Mexican and Latino communities. This free Windows 7 theme celebrates Day of the Dead with a parade of its own: beautiful photographs of colorfully decorated calaveras (skulls), including the traditional sugar skulls shared on that holiday.
