Description of DIY DataRecovery DataBack

The general view is that, once you reformat a drive, any files there previously are relegated to the land of memories. DataBack allows you to recover deleted files to a safe volume, where you can find and use them again. It can also scan a reformatted volume for lost folders. DataBack is not a conventional undelete utility--it does not edit the logical structures of the volume containing the deleted file or folder to revive the file. To recover deleted files, you simply browse folders as if you were browsing them in Windows Explorer.

DataBack can recover deleted files and folders as long as the information has not been overwritten and the file was stored in a sequence of contiguous clusters.

DataBack can copy files and folders from a volume that was accidentally reformatted. It also requires that the current format matches the original one. For example, if a FAT32 volume of 6GB with a cluster size of 4K was reformatted with those parameters, DataBack will be able to locate folders and files after scanning the disk.
