Wish you had one product you could rely on to view, organize, edit, repair, fine-tune, jazz up, e-mail, and archive your digital photos? One that didn't require a night school course to learn to use? If so, try ACDSee Photo Manager 9.
For $40, it combines the best traits of various kinds of digital photo software in one good-looking package: first-class image-editing and special effects tools, including a pro-quality retouching option called Heal, numerous ways to sort photos by automated or manually created characteristics, batch editing and file conversions, CD/DVD burning, and more.
New to this version is a Shadow/Highlight tool that will save some badly exposed images from the trash heap, the ability to password-protect (not just hide) confidential photos and other files in Private folders, and a highly configurable desktop slideshow utility, Showroom. A new Print Layouts feature simplifies the task of home-printing multiple images efficiently.
ACDSee also has some of the slickest on-site tutorials around, though you'll have to create a customer service account to see their service, support, and training content.
Note: There is also an ACDSee Pro Photo Manager available for $130.
