Description of 11 February 2002 Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer
This download patches newly discovered security flaws in Internet Explorer versions 5.x and 6.x. Among these are holes that allow an attacker to read files on your system. Another flaw makes it possible for an attacker to misrepresent the name of a file in a dialog box, in an attempt to trick you into opening or saving an unsafe file. Other flaws let malicious users run scripts and applications on another system via the Internet.
This patch also eliminates all previously found bugs that affect IE 5.01, 5.5, and 6.
To get your version, start IE, click the Help menu, and select About. In the resulting dialog box, pay attention not only to the Version (first line) but to Update Versions (fourth line) as well, since there are different patches for IE 5.5 SP1 and IE 5.5 SP2.
