Description of FileBox eXtender (32-bit version)

Navigate easily through Windows folder maze with FileBox eXtender buttons placed on standard Windows file boxes. Access your favorite and recently visited folders and documents with one mouse click or hot key. Make the file boxes bigger to see more folders and files. Optionally FileBX buttons can be also placed on Explorer windows or accessed from the system tray. Also adds a push-pin button to top level window, to toggle their "stay on top" status, and a roll-up button to hide window contents except for title bar.

  Duration of ownership: 4 Years

  Strengths: Run Win XP Pro on all my PCs. FbX is automatically the first utility I load on a PC. It is one of those programs that I use without thinking about it - all the time! It is very configurable within the bounds of what it does, ie. puts a drop down in almost every file dialog (like Open/Save/Select) that lets me home in right away on the folder/file I want. And the tray icon is just great. I use it instead of File Explorer all the time - again, I have it set up to list all the folders/disks/etc that I want - (and can even open docs and files for editing) within two clicks. I'm lazy!

  Weaknesses: Sure, like Dave found it can take a bit if "bedding down" but once you have it set up it just works. eg. I just had lots of problems when I installed a new ver of Skype. Turned out to be interaction with FbX - and it was as simple as telling FbX to "Ignore this program" in Settings.

  Overall Evaluation: As a computer person for over 25 years, I believe a utility should be like a hammer - I just pick it up and use it. Shouldn't have to think about the how/compatibility/etc etc. This program is like that... An indispensable tool on my PC. I'm an unrepenting fanboy of this prog :-)

  Duration of ownership: 1 Days

  Strengths: The ability to more quickly access your favorite folders.

  Weaknesses: My OS is Windows XP Pro. The favorites add/remove function on the title bar was stuck on one folder, not showing the current folder as it should. Registration to the program forum is suspended, so I can't even try to get any help with the problem. As soon as the installation was complete, AVG antivirus was insisting that TrueInstall.exe is a trojan horse. This may be a false positive, but...

  Overall Evaluation: The program isn't working right, no support, possible virus. Can't recommend it for XP users; maybe it works better in Vista.
