Ever try to back up a DVD movie to VHS? You can't, normally, due to heavy-duty copy protection. But with some effort, you can back it up digitally. EasyDivX is a DVD backup program -- intended for personal backup only, developers take pains to note. EasyDivX automatically decrypts the DVD and copies it to your hard drive. The trick with EasyDivX is that you back up to the DivX codec, which allows for relatively high quality video with a small file size. For example, you can normally fit a DivX backup of a DVD movie onto a single CD-recordable disc. It also rips embedded subtitles, in case you're interested.
