Editorial Review of Folder Lock

Folder Lock keeps your data safe from prying eyes. This utility lets you create lockers on your PC where you can store the files and folders you'd like to safeguard--and you can choose which level of security to use.

You create a folder by choosing its location (anywhere on your PC) and giving it a name. You can then drag and drop the files and folders you'd like to add, and can choose whether to encrypt the data with 256-bit AES encryption, or to simply lock the information by password-protecting it. Encrypting the data takes a little longer (it took about three minutes to encrypt a 10GB folder on my PC), but doing so is obviously more secure than just using a password.

You can transfer your lockers to USB drives or optical discs, and can opt to have Folder Lock securely delete the original data once you've moved the files to a locker. Once your lockers are created they cannot be deleted without entering your password.

Folder Lock includes some additional security features, including the ability to remove your recent document history and clear your clipboard, and you can opt to have it lock down or shut down your PC after a certain number of failed login attempts. You can also run the program in stealth mode so that other users won't be able to see your lockers.

The interface is slick: It looks like an actual locked vault, and you'll see the handle spinning as your locker opens to reveal your data. But it's a bit too cute for my taste, especially when the design makes some of the features--like the advanced settings--difficult to access.

I wasn't able to hammer away at the Folder Lock's encryption to see if it will stand up to a real hacker. But if you're simply looking to keep your private data private, this is an easy way to do so.

Note: The trial version is good for 35 uses, and restricts the size of your encrypted lockers to 25MB.

Folder Lock is a fast file-security program that can password-protect, lock, hide and encrypt any number of files, folders, drives, pictures and documents in seconds. Protected files are hidden, undeletable, inaccessible and highly secure, brute force attacks to crack the password is not possible. It hides files from kids, friends and co-workers, safeguards them from viruses, trojans, worms and spyware, and even protects them from networked PCs, cable users and hackers. Files can also be protected on USB Flash Drives, Memory Sticks, CD-RW, floppies and notebooks. Protection works even if files are taken from one PC to another on a removable disk, without the need to install any software. It locks files in Windows, DOS and even Safe Modes. Duration of ownership: 8 Months

Strengths: I have been using Folder Lock for about six months now. I have tried numerous encryption tools and have found that Folder Lock is the only one that works on any Windows platform. This feature makes it ideal for using on a USB drive. The program is also very easy to use and has an attractive interface.

Weaknesses: There is one feature that I don't like. Folder Lock has a function called "Hacker Attempts" which logs incorrect passwords. The most recent release of Folder Lock, as of this posting, allows the user to disable this function. But if the function is not disabled it will log all of your incorrectly spelled passwords. They are stored in plain text in the Windows registry.

Overall Evaluation: Having said that, I still think that Folder Lock is a good program. I think everyone who is curious about his data security must try Folder Lock

Duration of ownership: 5 Months

Strengths: Locking and on-the-fly Encryption and complete data security. I encrypt 3GBs of my personal data within seconds.

Weaknesses: I didn't find any thing wrong in this software. in fact the latest version helped me more because now i can customize options according to my needs

Overall Evaluation: Before buying I installed its trial version on my vista operating system and ran it 25times to check it, I didnât find any difficulty or incompatibility. It works smoothly that made me to buy its full version for unlimited use.

Strengths: fast, reliable, secure, easy to use

Weaknesses: costly but worth it

Overall Evaluation: in spite of its cost i justlove it because it gives me unbreakable protection for my files and important documents. it is not only about locking it also offers encryption, and portability which is a great feature

Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: Fast and Easy to Use.

Weaknesses: Cannot re-install software from Producer's disc when PC crashes.

Overall Evaluation: Not worth 10% of the $52.45 it costs. Support is by e-mail only and Support unable or unwilling to provide solution to problem. Useless in the long run.

Strengths: data once locked can never ne unlocked by any mens except with my password.

Weaknesses: i am a current user of Folder Lock,I am using Folder Lock VERSION 6.05 and haven't fount any thing weaker nor faced any bug.

Overall Evaluation: Its only a month using Folder Lock,I am using its trial version and I am pretty much convinced to buy this extremely secure product,tested its each and every feature and was amazed to see it functioning perfectly,its stealth mode feature is outstanding,no one knows that I am using any security software to protect my data.

Strengths: the program is extremely powerful,uncrackable and no data recovery software can recover the data protected by it.

Weaknesses: Ive recently downloaded the new version and its working very good so far,haven't found any weaknesses yet.

Overall Evaluation: I am not an old user of Folder lock,before I was using other security products but they were not satisfying so I decided to download Folder Lock. I am using it new version now and I found it a bug free,rapid processing and a comprehensive security software.
