Description of NISTime-32bit
NISTime is the tiny, 260KB application that sets your computer's clock to the atomic clocks operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) atomic clocks, in either Colorado or Maryland. The program requires no installation (just unzip the file to your c:\windows or c:\winnt folder) and very little setup, though you may wish to read the PDF manual before you begin.
Optionally, you can set the program to set the time every time you boot your computer using our registry key, below (though you should only do this if you have an always-on Internet connection). If you want to do this, unzip the nistime-32bit.exe application to your Windows directory (c:\windows in Windows XP, 9x, and Me, or c:\winnt in Windows 2000 and NT), download the "auto set" registry file appropriate for your version of Windows, then unzip and double-click the registry file. When you get a dialog box asking whether it's OK to add the information to the registry, click Yes. The next time you start up (and thereafter), 90 seconds after you get to the desktop, the program will set the system's clock.
