Description of Google Desktop Search
With this program, Google applies their searching expertise to help you find files on your computer's hard drive. Google Desktop Search allows you to scour your hard drive for lost or forgotten documents. The program searches for Microsoft Office files, AOL IM chat sessions, cached Web pages, and Outlook and Outlook Express e-mail files. It creates a searchable index. And because you're searching your desktop, not the Internet, you can conduct searches when you're not online. It even gives you a sidebar that displays current news, local weather, new information from recently visited sites, and more.
You should be aware, however, that this is beta software, so it is not a fully tested release. In addition, PC World found a potential security problem with the file, in which it could resurrect Web pages that were not meant to be viewed again.
