Usenet newsgroups introduce you to breaking news, thoughtful discussion, and like-minded people (and to a few people you mind very much), plus their accompanying videos, MP3s, and images. TIFNY Usenet Newsreader filters and catalogs media files in newsgroups, letting you decide which ones merit a closer look and which ones you don't even want to see. TIFNY's makers say it monitors hundreds of image-containing groups and displays images as a slide show as they download--and that these functions can perform automatically, or wait for your command.
Filtering logic rejects spam, cross-postings, and your killfile items without wasting your time and bandwidth on downloading them. You can weed out unwanted images by author, organization, newsgroup, file type, file size, or keyword.
With its built-in MP3 jukebox and video player, TIFNY promises you can enjoy your media files immediately. A preview mode lets you choose the files you want to download, and a search function lets you call up items you'd like to see again. All of this helps you put the "use news" back into Usenet newsgroups.
