Description of Microsoft DirectX 9.0c
If you're looking for higher performance when playing action games, or if you enjoy viewing video and animation on your PC, you should definitely upgrade to the latest version of DirectX.
DirectX, of course, is Microsoft's advanced suite of multimedia APIs (application programming interfaces), which lets developers write code for multimedia applications on any Windows PC, no matter what the hardware. The drivers provide a "hardware abstraction layer," as Microsoft describes it, to allow software drivers to communicate between software and computer hardware.
Note: DirectX will overwrite any earlier versions of the drivers, so if you had an earlier version of DirectX installed on your system, you will see little difference in available space on your hard drive following installation.
