Description of FileMaker Pro 9

If e-mailing a spreadsheet from one co-worker to the next isn't getting the job done, it may be time for a workgroup database. Use this database program to sort your inventory records, mailing lists, reports, and so on. FileMaker Pro can convert Excel spreadsheets to databases, eliminating time-consuming data entry and the errors that accompany it. It uses a Microsoft Office-like interface and comes with over 20 ready-to-use templates (Asset Management, Personnel Records, Business Cards, Purchase Orders, and so on) that will help get you started. You can use its Web publishing capabilities to display database layouts over an office intranet or the Web. Other features include built-in CGI tools, Cascading Style Sheets authoring, and electronic-commerce support. If you're dealing with sensitive information, the program lets you restrict access to data files using different passwords and privileges for different groups, to the point of allowing users to view only their own records. Data can also be shared with your Windows Office applications.

This version introduces a new Quick Start Screen, External SQL data connection and reporting, conditional formatting, enhanced toolbars and more.
