Editorial Review of Webshots Desktop

Webshots is a sprawling, community-oriented photo- and video-sharing site that also makes prominent use of professional stock photography.

Webshots Desktop software lets you upload your own photos to your album pages on the Webshots site, where you can track views and comments.

But it's also a great way to liven up your desktop. As a free member of the Webshots community, you're entitled to five downloads per day from the pro Gallery (premium members get unlimited pro downloads), which are then pressed into service as your rotating desktop wallpaper and, if you like, screensaver.

You can customize how often the images change and how. You can also spice up the mix with images of your own, as well as photos taken by other members of the Webshots community.

On the downside, the images you download from Webshots are specially encoded, so they can only be used with the Webshots Desktop.

Note: An update to the software is due shortly that will allow users to manage video files alongside their photos.
