Editorial Review of NoteZilla

Do you write little notes to yourself to keep organized? That'll work for a while--but there comes a point where something else must be done. If you spend a significant amount of time on your computer, a "sticky note" program like NoteZilla could be a godsend.

NoteZilla lets you jot virtual notes and pin them to your computer desktop, to an open document, a Web page, a Windows Explorer window--wherever you need a reminder or note. The notes can contain text or images, and can have files or reminders attached to them. You can add tags to your random notes, corral them into general categories, and browse them in NoteZilla's easy-to-use Notes Browser. The program works with Microsoft Outlook to let you e-mail notes to contacts directly within NoteZilla, and you can even send notes over a local-area network. Notes can be password protected and customized in practically unlimited ways. NoteZilla offers so many features, it's difficult to cover in a brief review.

NoteZilla is well designed and intuitive to use for the most part; I found myself wishing for right-click functionality, however. It grew a little annoying to click a taskbar icon (or use an unfamiliar hotkey combo) to create a new note. I tested the program on Windows XP and ran across an annoying glitch: The "Stick to Window" feature didn't work properly. Notes that I stuck to documents or Web pages didn't reappear when I minimized those windows and re-opened them. Vista users may have a different experience.

Overall, however, I was impressed with NoteZilla. The fully functional program is free to try for 30 days, which should give you plenty of time to test on your own system. If you need some help organizing yourself, and you love sticky notes, NoteZilla is definitely worth a try.
