Editor's Review of NetNote Client
If you're the kind of person who needs to see everything at once to remember it, NetNote Client is a great, free way to spread out your notes. This program functions like a set of virtual sticky notes, capturing almost any kind of textual information you have -- event reminders, to-do lists, and other snippets. You can even record audio as part of a note. (There are other utilities out there that do similar things, but I haven't looked at them yet.)
With its easy-to-use interface and personalized layout, NetNote easily fit into my work style. It has very good reminder capabilities, letting you set countdowns to appointments and allowing you to snooze reminder alarms. If you regularly make a note of a certain type -- such as a meeting reminder that includes the time, place, and purpose of the event -- you can use the included note templates (called Models) and simply fill in the blanks. The only thing I didn't like about NetNote was that the main window, which lists all your notes, sits on top of your other open windows by default.
Upon downloading NetNote, it's apparent that its intended use isn't simply as a sticky-note program, but as a communication utility for offices. If you want to send confidential, instant messages to your colleagues (or family) across your local network, you must install NetNote Server, which comes as a 30-day trial. It costs $50-$1,500 depending on the number of users. We tested NetNote Client with only cursory use of the server.
