Editorial Review of CDRoller

CDRoller purports to recover data from any type of UDF/ISO9660/FAT32 disc that can be written: CD, DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray. It's always tricky testing recovery programs, especially those that work with optical discs. All I can report is that it worked with several test CDs/DVDs that I keep around for these reviews. The test discs won't load, but can be read low level.

Fortunately, you don't have to pay for CDRoller to find out if it works. Simply download the demo and see if it finds the data you're trying to recover. If it does, pay the $30 and save your data (assuming it's worth $30 to you, of course). The program also erases and writes CD/DVD/BD discs, as well as reads and burns ISO images.

If you have a decent amount of computer knowledge, CDRoller couldn't be easier to use. The company might consider putting a one-button (Recover) interface on for neophytes, but most users will be just fine with all the options and info arranged neatly on the main screen.

CDRoller is a no-brainer. Download it, see if it works, if it doesn't (many discs simply can't be recovered) then don't pay a penny.

CDRoller is a powerful, easy-to-use and low-cost toolset for CD/DVD/BD/HD-DVD/Flash data recovery. Key features: 1. Effectively retrieves the data from the discs created by "drag and drop" CD/DVD/BD writing software, such as well-known Sonic (Roxio, Adaptec) and Ahead Nero software packages. 2. Finds and recovers the lost DVD movies and photos, created by a wide set of standalone devices, including Hitachi, Canon, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony DVD camcorders as well as standalone video recorders. Converts a "raw" DVD-video (VOB or VRO files) into MPEG files without loss of quality. Makes a new DVD-Video disc that can be played back in the most DVD players. 3. Includes built-in CD/DVD/BD burner and eraser integrated into common shell. 4. Recovers CD data written by Sony Mavica CD digital cameras. 5. Retrieves lost files from flash memory cards. 6. Includes built-in UDF Reader. No need to install UDF Reader from third-party. 7. Finds and retrieves the lost files on UDF discs, including: accidently deleted files, files on quick-formatted disk, files on incorrectly closed disk, etc. 8. Examines disc sectors at low level. 9. Rescues the data from scratched, damaged or defective discs. 10. Retrieves back up files from the disks recorded in several stages (multisession discs). 11. Provides direct access to the hardware, bypassing the Windows File System. Supports SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD) layer under Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista. 12. Tests disc readability. 13. Extracts ISO Image file and burns it to a new disc. 14. All features are integrated into a common and easy-to-use intuitive shell.
