Editorial Review of Actual Transparent Window

With Actual Transparent Window you can add transparency to open windows and also set specific programs to open in transparent windows. If you think you'll find this capability useful, you should give the program a try.

Immediately upon loading the program you'll notice two new icons in your windows' title bars: a tiny wrench and a checkerboard. Click the checkerboard to apply 20 percent transparency to the window; click it again to return to normalcy. To tweak transparencies for that specific window, click the wrench to access the Actual Transparent Window interface. You can also click the program icon on the left of the title bar to access the Actual Transparent Window interface, choose a specific transparency level, or flip the window into Ghost mode. This is an odd little setting: In Ghost mode you can see the targeted window, but you can't click on it. Any clicks go straight through to the window behind it. If you accidentally choose this mode, you can turn it off by right-clicking the Actual Transparent Window icon in your system tray and choosing Stop or Exit.

In my tests the program worked as advertised, except that it did not affect my favorite image editor, Faststone Image Viewer. If the idea of making your windows transparent intrigues you, be sure to use the trial version first to confirm it works properly with your programs before paying the $10 license fee. And if you crave even more control over your windows, check out the vendor's other programs: Actual Window Guard, Actual Window Minimizer, and the full suite.
