Editorial Review of 3D World Map

3D World Map displays a full-color globe, with mountains and the sea floor shown in relief. You can toggle on a Day/Night view, which shows the position of the sun in real time. A nice detail: Large cities sparkle with light on the dark side of the world. You can easily compute the distance between any two points. Statistics such as population, area, longitude and latitude, and area are available for hundreds of cities and countries..

The program can also be used as a screen saver. The developer says that 3D World Map includes an MP3 player that loads automatically and plays music from around the world, but I was not able to find this feature in the free version that I tested.

This free version does not expire, but "trial version" appears in a box on screen. Registering the software for $30 gives you a higher-definition globe with the ability to zoom in for greater detail.
