Registrar is a nice tool for a nasty job: working with the Windows Registry. The Registry is a repository of all sorts of information--much of it vital for running your computer and making your software work properly--and it's a maze of twisty little subdirectories, all seemingly alike. Further, an error can cause some programs to behave oddly, or even make Windows unbootable.
Registrar will not protect you from errors--you must, must, must know what you're doing when working with the Registry (or at least have a Restore point set)--but it makes the Registry easier to use and thus reduces the chances of accidents. A free tool, RegEdit, is included with Windows, but its functionality is fairly sparse. For example, searching for particular registry key by searching for a keyword is very tedious in RegEdit; the search function in Registrar is much more powerful.
Furthermore, Registrar allows you to edit registries on remote computers (if you have approprate access), compare two sets of registry files (helpful for tracking down settings-related bugs), and place Bookmarks to allow easy navigation.
Registrar Registry Manager Lite is free and has no timeout, but there is a commercial upgrade with more features that may be of interest to advanced users.
