Description of Ranking
Excel's Rank() function returns the ranking of a particular number in a list of numbers. For example, you can use the function to generate a ranking of your sales staff, or students' test grades. The function is certainly useful, but if ties are involved the result may not be what you had in mind. Here's a custom function, created by PC World's very own spreadsheet guru, John Walkenbach. See the February 1999 issue for more information.
