Editorial Review of X-Setup Pro

Windows is full of hidden settings, and X-Setup pro gives you quick and easy access to them. With this $15 program, you can tweak hundreds of settings within Windows and many common applications (the developer claims there are 1900 settings in total), from mundane things like which wallpaper appears to more complex settings such as disabling the CD burning capabilities of Windows.

You can also change application settings. For example, you can alter the appearance of Internet Explorer or which servers various Instant Messaging programs connect to. Some of the settings are potentially hazardous, but the program does a good job of warning you if you're altering one of these. You can even record a series of changes to settings, then use this recording to configure a group of PCs in a similar way.

We found one quirk with it, though: The program checks updates on the developer's Web site, but it falsely reported that a newer version was available.
