Strengths: Great free usage of the most popular compression strategies.

Weaknesses: None that I know of. Stacking of compression is also possible.

    Overall Evaluation: Excellent and FREE.

Strengths: Mr. Spector's comment that 7-Zip "can't compress a .zip into an .exe." is misleading. Using the .7z extension, you can easily create an sfx self-extracting archive, and when you're looking to create a self-extracting .exe file you shouldn't care what the internal compression algorithm is. The right-click interface is also functional and straightforward as opposed to "dull and unattractive" and that's the interface you'll be using most of the time.

    Weaknesses: None

Overall Evaluation: 7-Zip's .7z format usually produces much smaller archives than .zip, although 7-Zip can produce perfectly compatible .zip files when needed. It has easy-to-use right-click integration into Windows Explorer and excellent command-line capabilities.

Strengths: great compression abilities, ability for aes-256 encryption, easy to uuse, has shell extension, unzips rar.

    Weaknesses: none

Overall Evaluation: I use this program to mostly unzip files but it works very well and has good compression. It also has a self extracting capability. i really like it
